Valley Area Stretcher Transport (VAST) provides specialized transport services for patients who need to be transported by stretcher, but do not require medical treatment during the course of being transported.

Valley Area Stretcher Transport (VAST) is a 501c3 non-profit organization created to support the unique transportation needs in Rockbridge County and (soon to include) Alleghany County. Our nonemergent stretcher-van is available to transport non-emergency patients unable to be transported by wheelchair or other means, between places of residence and medical services. Examples include being transported:
from a hospital to a residence
from a skilled nursing facility to outpatient appointments
from hospice to home.
As a nonprofit service provider, VAST is Medicaid-certified and operates on a sliding scale based on income which, typically, is less than half of the costs charged by private service providers based outside of Rockbridge and Alleghany counties. In addition to saving costs, VAST decreases waiting time for customers and ensures services are provided with the utmost dignity and compassion.
